Program Overview
Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology (abbreviated as B.Sc. Biotechnology) is a 3-year undergraduate course that teaches intricacies of biological processes that are used in food production, medicine production, and other such purposes. Affiliated with I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University Jalandhar, our course teaches concepts of Biomathematics, Biophysics, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Genetics, just to name a few. Apart from academic skills, our course-set imparts soft skills and an understanding of the worldview of your field of study.
Admission Eligibility Criteria
The minimum education requirements shall be the passing of:
- 10+2 examination with atleast 50% marks in aggregate with Physics & Chemistry as compulsory subjects and either Mathematics or Biology conducted by a recognized Board / University / Council or its equivalent.
- Candidates with both Maths or Biology at 10+2 are eligible to apply
- 10+2 with English having 40% of marks in Vocational Stream-Health care Science from a recognized CBSE board/State/Centre
- The candidate shall be medically fit.
- 5% relaxation of marks for SC/ST candidates may be given.

Practical exposure to students about various aspects of organic chemistry and develop good experimental and quantitative skills in students including safety measures in a chemical lab, preparation of laboratory reagents, conducting experiments, satisfactory evaluation of data and analysis of results.
Biochemistry andMetabolism
To aware students about the basic biochemistry of life, different types of biomolecules, their structure, functions and metabolism. To study application of biochemistry in medical and biological field settings.
Introduction to Biotechnology Lab
Impart practical knowledge in the various domains of basic biological science. Students should be able to solve and interpret the practical real-life problems.Demonstration of practical skills in the use of tools, technologies and methods and apply the scientific method and hypothesis testing in the design and execution of experiments.
Biochemistry andMetabolism Lab
Ability to perform basic laboratory procedures used in protein and nucleic acids biochemistry laboratory, including good standard lab practices and accurate record keeping. Develop ability to correlate the theoretical basis of the tools and methods common to Biochemistry.
English
To introduce students to the theory, fundamentals and tools of communication, become independent users of English language and to develop vital communication skills which are integral to their personal, social and professional interactions.

Physical Chemistry
To understand the basic concepts of physical chemistry in terms of their utilization in various daily applications. Introduction to Microbiology
Ability to explain core theoretical and practical principles of relevance to discovery, origin and evolution of different forms of bacteria, fungi, protozoa and viruses. Students should be able to classify, identify, use of instruments, sterilization, cultural requirements and to perform different microbiological tests in clinical microbiology lab.
Biostatistics
Problem solving skills and understanding statistical tools for problems related to biological sciences. To instill basic knowledge and understanding of statistical theory.
Introduction to Microbiology Lab
Understanding working principles of all the instruments used in Microbiology, simple identification and isolation techniques employed in microbiology for different microorganisms. Using microbiological concepts to summarize and analyze research results related to microbes and related issues in microbiological laboratory.
Biostatistics Lab
To understand the significance of statistical analysis in biology and to acquire knowledge on biological databases and algorithms for biological applications.
Environment Science
To understand the basic concepts of fundamentals of ecology. To understand environmental problems at local and national level through literature and general awareness. To describe the events and methods which are involved in the effluent treatment and application of recent techniques in the environmental biotechnology. The students will apply interdisciplinary approach to understand key environmental issues and critically analyze them to explore the possibilities to mitigate these problems.

To learn about the basic of organic chemistry and their role in daily life. Gain useful knowledge of the chemistry of formation of various bonds and structures. Students will learn the nomenclature and how various conformations can be interconverted.
Immunology
To understand the basic functions of immune system, its components, various diseases and vaccines. Students will have basic understanding of the molecular basis of complex, cellular processes involved in inflammation and immunity, in states of health and disease.
Molecular Biology
To learn about the genetic material and basic genetic molecular mechanisms to develop analytical and quantitative skills. This course introduces the students to the basics of central dogma of molecular biology and its significance. Students understand the chemical and molecular processes that occur in and between the cells and understanding the concept of genetic code and its features.
Organic Chemistry Lab
Students will learn basic concepts of organic chemistry, gain practical knowledge about defining relationship of physical and chemical properties to the structure and formation of compound. Determination of the nomenclature and how various conformations can be interconverted. Introduction to laboratory techniques through demonstration involving synthesis of selected organic compounds.
Immunology Lab
To acquire the required laboratory skills to perform, interpret and analyze core/ widely used techniques in immunology and to learn the fundamental working knowledge of basic principles of immunology and immunological techniques in clinical applications.
