Description

The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Allied Health Sciences Division-I, Saraswati College of Pharmacy, Gharuan, organized an “Infection Control and Hospital Safety Workshop” for the students of MLS 1st Semester on 10 September 2026. The workshop was designed to provide students with essential knowledge and practical exposure to infection prevention, healthcare safety, and occupational risk management.

The programme focused on key infection-control practices, including effective hand hygiene, safe management of biological spills, and the correct donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Through demonstrations and hands-on activities, students were encouraged to understand the importance of following standard safety protocols in clinical and laboratory environments.

To further reinforce the learning experience, a Poster Making Competition on the theme “Infection Control and Hospital Safety” was conducted. Students creatively presented important aspects of infection prevention, PPE usage, biomedical waste management, and hospital safety, promoting both awareness and active participation.

The workshop provided a meaningful blend of theoretical awareness, practical demonstration, experiential learning, and creative expression, helping students develop a stronger safety-oriented approach essential for their future roles as healthcare professionals

Event/ Activity Report:

The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Saraswati College of Pharmacy, Gharuan, organized an “Infection Control and Hospital Safety Workshop” for MLS 1st Semester students on 10 September 2026 at 10:00 AM in Room 403, Block E. The programme was conducted with the objective of enhancing students’ knowledge and practical skills related to infection prevention, hospital safety, and occupational health practices.

The programme commenced with an introductory session highlighting the importance of infection control measures in hospitals, laboratories, and healthcare settings. Students were informed about standard precautions, healthcare-associated infections, and the role of healthcare professionals in maintaining a safe environment.

Three hands-on activities were conducted during the programme:

1. Hand Hygiene Activity:Students were trained in the proper handwashing technique and hand rub method based on standard infection control guidelines. Demonstrations emphasized the importance of hand hygiene in preventing the transmission of infections.

2. Spill Management Activity:Students were provided practical demonstrations on the safe management of biological spills. The activity included the use of disinfectants, spill kits, personal protective equipment, and proper disposal procedures to minimize contamination risks.

3. PPE Donning and Doffing Activity:Students learned the correct sequence of wearing and removing personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, masks, gowns, and face shields. The activity focused on preventing self-contamination and ensuring personal safety while handling infectious materials.

Students actively participated in all activities and gained valuable practical exposure to infection prevention practices commonly followed in hospitals and laboratories.

A Poster Making Competition on the theme “Infection Control and Hospital Safety” was also organized at 1:30 PM. Students prepared informative and creative posters highlighting hand hygiene, PPE use, biomedical waste management, and hospital safety practices. The competition encouraged students to express their understanding through visual learning and enhanced awareness regarding infection prevention.

The programme was highly informative and interactive. It successfully strengthened the students’ understanding of infection control principles and prepared them to follow safe practices in healthcare and laboratory environments.
