Program Overview

Bachelor of Science in Operation Theatre Technology, abbreviated as B.Sc. OTT, is a three-year undergraduate program that teaches ethics and arrangements of the operation theatre, as well as managing of equipment that are necessary while performing surgery. It also sharpens cognitive skills to handle emergency situations and patient breakdowns during complex procedures. Admission Eligibility Criteria

The minimum education requirement shall be:

  • 10+2 science with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Minimum 50% pass percentage in 10+2.
  • The candidate shall be medically fit.
  • 5% relaxation of marks for SC/ST candidates may be given.

Curriculum

Human AnatomyandPhysiology–1
Students will learn basic concepts of cells, tissues, blood and to understand anatomy and physiology of human body. This subject will develop an understanding of the structure and function of organs and organ systems in normal human body for their better understanding in clinical practice.

AppliedBiochemistry
Students will learn knowledge of basic chemistry and biochemistry involved in physiology of human body. They will be able to understand the biochemical reactions in the human body, evaluate the reports generated by laboratory and shall be able to understand important information related to patient health/disease.

Communication Skills
This course will allow students to learn and appreciate communication skills, since they are important in daily life. Communication skills, language skills, personal habits, empathy (emotional knowledge or cognitive awareness), and leadership characteristics are some of the skills that make up social graces and are important in any profession.

Human Anatomy and Physiology – 1 (Practical)
To introduce the students to the concepts related to General anatomy, Muscular, Respiratory, Circulatory, Digestive and Excretory system. Demonstrate and understand the basic anatomy of various systems of the body, understand terminology, differentiate between cells and tissues.

Applied Biochemistry (Practical)
Introduction to Personnel protective equipment used in laboratory and their importance, basic concepts of clinical biochemistry, learn principles of various conventional laboratory investigations and instruments, analysis and interpretation of data from a lab.

Communication Skills (Practical)
To develop communication skills of a graduate technician by emphasizing on writing, speaking & listening skills.

Medical Law and Ethics
Legal and ethical considerations are firmly believed to be an integral part of medical practice in planning patient care. The course will enable students to learn the laws, ethics and official regulations that form the legal framework to regulate medical practice.

Medical Terminology, Record keeping and Orientation to Operation theatre Technology and Management
This course introduces the elements of medical terminology and familiarity with medical words. Terminology related to the human anatomy, reading medical orders and reports, and terminology specific to the student’s field of study.

Human Values, De-addiction and Traffic Rules
This course is intended to provide an orientational input in Value Education to the young enquiring minds, to help the students appreciate the essential complementarily between values and skills for a better management of life values.

Students will be able to learn the terminology of the subject and basic knowledge of cells, tissues, blood and to understand anatomy and physiology of human body. This subject will develop an understanding of the structure and function of organs and organ systems in normal human body.

Applied Microbiology
To introduce the basic principles of microbiology and to demonstrate knowledge of microorganisms and the disease process, etiological agents responsible for global infectious diseases well as aseptic and sterile techniques.

Quality Management, Patient safety and Disaster management
The course will help students to understand the basic concepts of quality health Care and develop skills to implement sustainable quality assurance, Quality control and Quality improvement program in the healthcare system particularly in Operation theatre services.

Human Anatomy and Physiology – 2 (Practical)
To teach the students the basic anatomy of Muscular, Respiratory, Circulatory, Digestive and Excretory system, nervous and special senses. Demonstrate and understand the basic anatomy of various systems of the body.

Applied Microbiology (Practical)
To visit clinical microbiology laboratory and understand the clinical relevance of various tests, perform microbiological laboratory procedures according to appropriate safety standards

Quality Management, Patient safety and Disaster management(Practical)
The objective of the course is to help students understand the basic concepts of quality in health and to understand various medical terminologies, demonstrate various diagnostic, surgical, and procedural terms and documentation according to NABH guidelines.

Environmental Sciences
To understand environmental problems and highlight the importance of adopting an interdisciplinary approach in order to understand key environmental issues and critically analyze them and understand the relationship between people and environment.

Nursing procedures
The students will learn the procedures which are commonly handled by nursing staff, so that in case of any emergency they can be helpful in the working of operation theatre.

Applied Physics
The subject will make them capable of understanding the physics involved in working of various instruments used in operation theatres.

Sterilization, disinfection and CSSD procedures
To learn principles of sterilization and disinfection, Hazards and Prevention of hazards of sterilization.

Equipmentin OTs –Care & Maintenance (Practical)
Impart practical training to prepare and maintain Operation Theater, Manage and maintain theatre equipment.

Principles of Anesthesia (Practical)
Monitoring in the Operation Theatre and learn practical skills for clinical demonstration. Learn about procedural protocols and anesthesia equipment and patient management.

Sterilization, disinfection and CSSD procedures (Practical)
Independently demonstrated skills of disinfection and sterilization, Practice of safe procedures for collection of used equipment or other materials to be sterilized andre-cycled, biomedicalwaste management in clinical settings.

Antibiotic resistance and antibiotic Policy
Broad understanding of the main areas of infection prevention and control, details about antibiotic resistance and control of infections, learn about hospital acquired infections and antibiotic policy.

Clinical Pharmacology
The subject is designed to strengthen the basic knowledge in the field of clinical Pharmacology and to impart knowledge about drugs which are being used in operation theatre. This subject will also help the students to understand pharmacokinetic, mechanism of action, adverse drug reactions and contraindication of drugs used in operation theatre.

To learn to assist in General surgical procedure and learn about parasurgical equipment, types of operation lights and light sources, pre and post-operative intensive care procedures.

Learn history, Introduction and importance of Blood transfusion and transfusion procedures.

Basic Anesthesia Procedures
Learn techniques of general anesthesia, basics of life support (Airway, breathing, circulation) and the equipment used for it. Application of Anesthesia drugs and techniques used.

BasicSurgical procedures practical
To observe and learn the various steps of functioning of equipment used in surgical procedures in operation theatre. Ability to assist in surgical procedures.

Transfusion Medicine practical
Practical training in blood bank and learn the basics of blood transfusion, precautions, risks and procedures associated with it.

BasicAnesthesiaProcedures practical
To handle Anesthesia work station and learn about advanced anesthesia machines, Apparatus and technique of the intravenous injections, Resuscitation techniques.

Clinical Hematology
Introduction to basic concepts of blood, its composition, function and normal cellular components, CBC reading and interpretation, knowledge about various anemia and coagulation studies.

Clinical Pathology
Understand the importance of clinical information in supporting a timely, accurate pathological diagnosis, learn principles of clinical pathology, response and causes of infection.

Biomedical Waste Management
Learn to manage hazardous waste and follow biomedical waste disposal methods, waste minimizing and re-cycling.

Visit sgcollege.edu.in/ SGCADMIT. Sign up or register with basic details (i.e. name, email id, mobile no., state, gender, and password). Login to the SGCADMIT with an already created username/ password. * Your email id will act as your username for the portal while the password will be set by you upon registration.

Step 2 – Book Your Slot

After successfully creating your candidate SGCADMITprofile, you’ll be taken to registration fee page. Pay your fees by logging into the dashboard and complete your profile.

Step 3 – University Examination (PPMET)

After successfully booking the seat, the candidates have to fill the PPMET application form. The link for registration shall be available/sent on your profile and email.

Step 4 – Counselling

Upon successfully clearing the PPMET exam, you have to apply for counseling through your SGC portal, followed by SOP uploading.

Step 5 – Admission

You become eligible for admission into Saraswati Group of Colleges after the declaration of counseling result and submission of requisite fees.
